The Great Southern Killarney celebrates a New Era of Five-Star Hospitality

22 Oct, 2026

The Great Southern Killarney welcomed friends, valued partners and special guests on 1st October for The Good Times Return, an evening marking a new chapter in the historic hotel’s evolution as a five-star destination.

Since opening in 1854, The Great Southern Killarney has welcomed generations of visitors drawn by its setting, warm hospitality and distinctive character. More than 170 years later, these qualities remain central to the guest experience, complemented by continued investment in contemporary luxury, exceptional dining and thoughtfully curated experiences.

The celebration began with a Champagne and canapé reception, including a special toast at 18:54 in tribute to the year the hotel first opened, followed by dinner at Arbour. Guests enjoyed a specially curated menu inspired by Kerry, which showcased local produce, seasonal flavours and the creativity of the culinary team. The refreshed restaurant forms an important part of the hotel’s evolving food offering, combining thoughtful presentation with warm, attentive service. Celebrations then moved to Brownes Bar for the unveiling of the hotel’s new Four Pillars Whiskey, accompanied by live entertainment and conversation.

The occasion also introduced guests to the hotel’s wider vision, expressed through its new brand positioning, Splendour, Untamed. Inspired by the contrast between the grandeur of the historic hotel and Killarney’s untamed natural beauty, the concept brings together elegant hospitality and a spirit of discovery. The following morning, yoga and falconry experiences highlighted an expanding guest offering spanning wellness, nature, dining and entertainment.

“The Great Southern Killarney has always been a place where people come together, and it was a real pleasure to welcome so many friends and partners to celebrate this important chapter in our story,” commented Jamie Power, General Manager at The Great Southern Killarney. “Our five-star recognition was a significant milestone; however, our ambitions extend beyond that achievement. We want to build on the heritage and character that make The Great Southern Killarney so special, while introducing new experiences and creating even more reasons for guests to visit. We are immensely proud of our history and equally excited about the future.”

The celebration follows a landmark year for the hotel, which was officially recognised as a five-star property in 2026, further strengthening its position within Ireland’s luxury hospitality landscape. As the hotel evolves, its commitment to personal service, genuine hospitality and its enduring connection to Killarney remains unchanged. Supported by a renewed focus on exceptional experiences, distinctive dining and the unique character of its surroundings, the hotel looks forward to continuing a tradition of memorable occasions for many years to come.
