SEAI Energy Awards success for Meadowlands Hotel and Randles Hotel

6 Nov, 2026

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has announced the winners of the 2026 SEAI Energy Awards. The awards celebrate individuals and organisations who demonstrate excellence in the drive for improved energy efficiency, reduced fossil fuel usage, reduced emissions and a more resilient economy.

Hosted by journalist Ella McSweeney, this year’s ceremony saw a total of 12 awards presented to individuals, businesses, communities, and public sector organisations in recognition of their commitment and dedication to sustainable energy and climate action. There were 157 submissions this year, the highest number in the history of the awards, across business, community and public sector organisations. Some 37 finalists were selected by expert judging panels for consideration as category winners.

Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee took gold in the Medium-sized Business category. The family-run hotel was recognised for its leadership in sustainable hospitality, achieving a 39% reduction in emissions and transitioning to 100% certified renewable electricity. Through investments in solar PV, battery storage and heat pumps, Meadowlands has embedded sustainability into its daily operations while maintaining an excellent guest experience.

Randles Hotel Killarney won the Hotels and Tourism Accommodation category. A proud member of the Fáilte Ireland Climate Action Programme, the hotel has been reducing its carbon footprint since opening in 1992. Sustainability efforts accelerated in 2020 with the installation of heat pumps, solar PV and a new energy management system, followed by further upgrades in 2021. These investments have delivered significant savings, helping the hotel achieve its 2030 target of a 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions five years ahead of schedule.

CEO of SEAI, William Walsh, commented “Those nominated for the SEAI Energy Awards are exceptional leaders in their field, and it’s a pleasure to celebrate them here today. From all sectors of the economy and all parts of the country, today’s finalists are securing a more sustainable, resilient future for their teams and the work that they do for years to come. The results speak for themselves: the entrants have generated enough renewable energy to power 183,000 homes and saved their organisations millions on their energy bills. That is a truly remarkable achievement, and I’ve no doubt they’ve inspired many more to follow in their footsteps.
